On 10 August 2010 in Bucharest, Romania, Mr. Bogdan Donciu and Mr. Diyan Dinev, Directors General of the Air Navigation Services Providers of Romania and of the Republic of Bulgaria, respectively ROMATSA and BULATSA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in air navigation services provision matters and for the establishment of a Functional Airspace Block DANUBE FAB. This Memorandum was signed in compliance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania signed on 26 February 2010 under the same subject.
The Memorandum between BULATSA and ROMATSA is an essential element of the set of common documents which guarantee the establishment of DANUBE FAB in line with the deadline fixed by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union - until the end of 2012. Thus, according to this Memorandum, the two parties are committed to take steps towards a gradual harmonization of the provided air navigation services, for the purpose of further improving safety, efficiency and capacity, while maintaining air navigation services provision from the presently existing area control centres in Bucharest and Sofia.
