Having in mind the Single European Sky legislation, whithin the common Bulgarian-Romanian Project for establishing a fucntional airsapec block, took place on July 28, 2010, at Romatsa headquarters, the first DANUBE FAB Steering Committee Meeting. The meeting was co-chaired by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure of Romania, Mr. Constantin Dascălu, and by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications of the Bulgarian Republic, Mr Kamen Kitchev. The event was attended by the Directors General of Civil Aviation, of the Civil Aviation Authorities and from the Ministries of Defence of both countries, as well as the Directors General of Romatsa and BULATSA. The Steering Committee was established through the DANUBE FAB Memorandum of Understanding signed on February 26 2010 by the Ministers of Transports from Romania and Bulgaria.
The DANUBE FAB Project was initiated in October 2004 by Romatsa and BULATSA, long before Romania and the Republic of Bulgaria became members of the European Union, and shortly after the approval of the first legislative package for the Single European Sky.
In 2009, the Project received european financing trough the TEN-T Programme, for 50% of the total costs of the Project, and the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure of Romania was designated coordinator of the Project in relation with the TEN-T Executive Agency (TEN-T EA).
During the meeting it has been analised the stage of the activities taken in order to ensure the implementation of the DANUBE FAB functional airspace block of until December 4, 2012, a requirement that must be fulfilled by both Romania and the Republic of Bulgaria as Member States of the European Union. Whithin this context the DANUBE FAB Project Roadmap was agreed, as working document, establishing the responsabilitis of the parties and the main guidelines for development.
